Rumi’s ghazal translated by Fatima Haidari with David Keplinger

Now that the army of love has conquered my realm,
ask love about my temper; ask me nothing.
The one heart of the lovers is a feverish oven.
Once in the oven, except for fire; ask for nothing.
If your soul’s bird wants to fly into this flame,
you feel best with burnt feathers. Never ask for feathers again.
When you wash the insight with the soap of the heart’s blood,
a sublime banquet awaits you. Except for red wine, ask for nothing.
